In fact, sharing files on home group is very easy. Home group assembles computers in a group to share images, audios, videos, text files, exe files, or even printers. Today I will instruct the Windows 7 users to share files on homegroup.
When you set up a homegroup, you must assign settings about sharing or keeping private to folders on computers. The folders shared on your computer can’t be changed unless they have the permissions from you. But homegroup is not available on Windows Server 2008 R2.
Homegroup make it faster and more convenient to automatically share files such as audios, videos, texts, exe files, pictures and other documents. But what do you do when you’re at workplace?
You can click on the “Share with” on the top of the window to select file or folder you want to share. The options on the menu of “Share with” are different based on the types of network your computer is connected to. But the most common options are “Nobody”, “Homegroup (Read)”, “Homegroup (Read/Write)”, “Specific people…”
“Nobody” means that the folder you selected is private and only you can access it; “Homegroup (Read)” means that computers on your homegroup can only read the shared files or folders; “Homegroup (Read/Write)” makes the computers on homegroup have read/write permissions; “Specific people…” allows you to open file sharing wizard, so you can choose specific users to share with the files and folders.
In Windows, you can not only decide who can access the file, but also assign what permissions to users to the shared file or folder. There are two options on sharing permissions: Read and Read/Write. The former one means recipients can only open but can’t modify or delete the shared file or folder; and the latter one means the recipients can open, modify and delete the shared file or folder.
And there’s another way to share files and folders with others. You can find a public folder in your libraries such as public documents, public music, public pictures, and public videos. Once the public folder sharing is turned on, all the files or folders in it can be immediately available to other users on your network. What you need to do to share folders with others is to copy and paste the file or folder in the public folder. But the public folder sharing is turned off by default. The public folder is very easy and convenient to share files, but one of its defects is that you can’t restrict people accessing the files on the public folder; also, the all recipients to the folder have full permissions.
